Kelis Claims The Neptunes Stole her Album Profit

Kelis is dropping another sensation.

On the 20th commemoration of her debut album Kaleidoscope, the artist has blamed The Neptunes for taking the benefits and distributing from her initial two albums, Kaleidoscope and Wanderland. In a meeting with The Guardian, Kelis claims Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo ripped her off.

“I was told we were going to split the whole thing 33/33/33, which we didn’t do,” she tells the U.K. newspaper, saying she was “blatantly lied to and tricked” by “The Neptunes and their management and their lawyers and all that stuff.”

Kelis claims she saw no cash from the offers of her initial two albums, which were created by The Neptunes. It took her a couple of years to acknowledge it since she was bringing in cash from visiting, “and simply the way that I wasn’t poor felt like enough.”

She concedes that she marked the agreement, however was unpracticed at that point. “Their contention is: ‘Well, you marked it,'” she says. “I’m similar to: ‘No doubt, I marked what I was told, and I was excessively youthful and too inept to even consider doubling check it.'”

While this is the first occasion when she has opened up to the world about the allegations, she saw Pharrell a couple of years back while he was performing at an industry occasion. “And he did that thing to me that he’s notorious for, which is making a nod from the stage [to someone in the audience], so it seems like there’s mutual respect, when in reality…” she says with a laugh. “I’m like, OK, I’m not going to yell back: ‘You stole all my publishing!’ So you end up nodding back and everyone thinks everything’s great. Like, whatever.”

Be that as it may, she isn’t irate about it. “To be honest with you, I think if it were not for my faith, I feel like that would probably be the case,” she adds. “It’s very clear to me, especially being on a farm, that whatever you put in the ground, that is what’s going to come back to you.”

When inquired as to whether she would work with Pharrell once more, she reacts, “Ummm, at that point there’s having faith and there is also just stupidity.”

In 2018, Kelis blamed her ex Nas for intellectually and truly manhandling her during their six-year marriage. He firmly denied the charges in an open letter.
