Wednesday 6th, 2022 Dr. Rommel Asagwara shared on his Instagram page: “As a doctor, I am used to hospital wards and clinics but being at the 2022 Grammys, for the first time ever to support my friend @spiceofficial a Grammy nominee, was surreal.
It was also mind-blowing to be live at the Grammys when @wizkidayo was called.
It is nothing like you see on TV. One lives the moment and feels every emotion in the air. The roar and chant of Wizkid made me stand proudly with excitement for our African son, celebrated by the world. It didn’t matter what color, language or nationality anyone was, we stood together in that commonality of acknowledging his mastery of afrobeats and music in general.
Before the results, I grabbed onto my kimono, pulse racing probably would have been slightly hypertensive from anxiety and voilà! Angelique Kidjo won. She won? Then for a split second one could feel the shock and deafening silence, not because she isn’t an African legend in her own rights, but because Wizkid was a giant who moved the world through music even during the pandemic. At that moment, we all screamed not only to applaud @angeliquekidjo but to express our gratitude to Wizkid whom I renamed Wizgiant!
I realized even though he didn’t win his greatness was acknowledged all over the hall and that’s a bigger win for him
Doctors for the Grammys!
