Legend has it that Alhaji Agyaa was one of the wealthiest people in Ghana during the regime of the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. He had no choice but to hide his own car from the ruling government for fear of its seizure.
As a socialist, Rawlings strongly believed every citizen deserved a fair share. He would go the extra mile to make sure the national cake reached everyone, reports have said.
Throughout Accra and other major cities in Ghana, hoarded goods were seized and sold to the public at controlled prices, store-houses were destroyed and several market women were flogged in public.
In those days Rawlings would seize assets he thought were gotten from corruption and Alhaji felt threatened.

According to folklore, Alhaji Agyaa locked the car up in a garage that had iron doors in his attempt to hide it from Rawlings.
The story which was shared for the first time in modern media along with photos by renowned sports journalist, Saddick Adams ‘the sports Obama’ received much traction from those who had heard it while growing up in Brong Ahafo.
“Alhaji Agyaa was his name. The car was popularly called Alhaji Agyaa Benz” the journalist added.
For those who grew in BA, this man was very rich and popular in the 1970-80s. He was the only millionaire who could acquire this Mercedez in the early 80s when JJ Rawlings was Military leader.

“He’s still alive and healthy those days I remember when we pip through the garage to watch this car, we were told the car can fly it has machine gun. This man is a great man” @boyfriction wrote in the comments section.
On the other hand, the authenticity of this story was challenged by a faction of social media users who thought it was a deliberate attempt to denigrate the late Jerry John Rawlings since dead men tell no tales.

But am been so sceptical about this thing oo. So why didn't the man bring the car out after JJ Rawlings handed over power to Kuffour in the 2000s? If really he was hiding it from the military government. He waited saaa till Corona came in 2020 and now we're in 2021. Ei Ghana 🤔😂 https://t.co/gtw9VuSBmt
